For Fans of: Boris - Flood (Not entirely similar, or even similar, but parts are reminiscent of it, particularly "The Breaking of Waves".)

And the winner for best packaging of the day goes to... Erik Enocksson with this gorgeous soundtrack to the Swedish movie 'Farväl Falkenberg', not that I've seen the movie as it's in Swedish and I haven't mastered that tongue yet, but still, it's probably good. The cover is all rough and tactile and Scandinavian looking and I have to say, it's brightened up my surreal afternoon, and that's before listening to the music. Luckily Enocksson doesn't disappoint and does exactly what I'd hope - lovely tempered acoustic compositions that sound like they were made on a back porch in America, by way of Goteborg of course. It's sort of like Tape without the electronics or Jasper TX with a full band - all droning organs, creaking chairs and delicately plucked string instruments and it's got my jaw lodged on the table. Seriously, if the film's even half as good as this soundtrack then it's going to be worth watching whether you speak Swedish or not. Plus there's the chance that it'll be porn, you know what those guys are like... we could be in for a winner after all. Seriously though this is a killer album and totally unexpected, I'd never heard of Enocksson before this but if this soundtrack is indicative of the rest of his material I expect we'll be hearing a lot more from him in the next few months. Absolutely gorgeous, close the doors and lock yourself inside, this is personal... music to fall in and out of love to. Highly recommended.

Celestia is a rather dark French Black Metal band. Apparitia - Sumptuous Spectre focuses on love and loss, but not in the "lighter" sense, so to speak, but in a dark, morbid, macabre and depraved way. The album cover of a bride standing in a gothic setting, the song titles like "Perverted Decadent, Dying Love" and "Morbid Romance," and the music itself bleeds dark romance. The riffs are sometimes slow, sometimes fast, and at times almost beautiful and are rather reminiscent of Peste Noire, but more romantic and melancholic. The mood is especially noticable on "Perverted Decadent, Dying Love," "Necromelancholic Reveries," and the sorrowfully beautiful acoustic opening to "The Fragrance of the Dead Rose." This album is morbidly romantic and beautifully decrepit; it's every depraved, gothic romance story spoken through the violent art of Black Metal.

Comments: The first track is some melancholic stoner doom from a lesser known stoner doom outfit, but amazing band none the less, called Ocean Chief. The first track is epic and ranges in at the 28:00 min. mark. Imagine that you are trying to plod through a gigantic stagnant swamp and as much as you struggle to try and free yourself from its grips, to get to the other side, you realized that the swamp is never ending and that it is only sucking you deeper into its murky depths gathering your body and soul in the sinking mud as you become a mindless, thoughtless drone. Well that is the type of trip that this track takes you on, slow and sludgy. But then suddenly you wake up and take notice... something has changed about this stagnant swamp, it is moving and writhing about throwing you around with it. At this point you realize that Runemagick's side of the split has started. A healthy dose of Death/Doom Metal reawakens your mind and takes you from a coma lapse in the mud to a dark temple filled with misty haze and chthonic smoke, and with a great lack of oxygen it begins to suck you right back under. Everything within the dark temple becomes heavy and despairing and you are locked into position until the final note takes place and the temple has finally cleared itself of the magic smoke like haze.
