Switchblade - Switchblade [2006]
Welcome To Our Blog!
This blog is dedicated to the melancholic sides of music. You won't find any action packed, fast-paced, intense music here, but that doesn't mean you won't witness some truly emotional art. Within the blog you will find various styles of music being uploaded such as: Ambience, Folk, Doom Metal, Black Metal, and Post-Rock. We hope to keep this blog active and post very interesting releases at least on a weekly basis. This is a group effort upload blog so some very diverse styles of music will probably end up being uploaded other than the genres already listed. Enjoy the melancholy, the depression, the sorrow, and the beauty...

Oöphoi - Whispers from the Noisy Void
Artist: Oophoi
Genre: Ambient

Oöphoi creates deep, beautiful and trance-inducing compositions that have set new standards in the field of space music.
He uses traditional instruments as synths and sampling machines, but also singing bowls, flutes, special percussions (woodchimes, stones, shells, crystal chimes) and processed voices; all his music is recorded using analog-only devices (no computers!) in The Kiva, his studio, which used to be a stall in a XV Century stone country house in the hills of central Italy.

Boomkat:
And the winner for best packaging of the day goes to... Erik Enocksson with this gorgeous soundtrack to the Swedish movie 'Farväl Falkenberg', not that I've seen the movie as it's in Swedish and I haven't mastered that tongue yet, but still, it's probably good. The cover is all rough and tactile and Scandinavian looking and I have to say, it's brightened up my surreal afternoon, and that's before listening to the music. Luckily Enocksson doesn't disappoint and does exactly what I'd hope - lovely tempered acoustic compositions that sound like they were made on a back porch in America, by way of Goteborg of course. It's sort of like Tape without the electronics or Jasper TX with a full band - all droning organs, creaking chairs and delicately plucked string instruments and it's got my jaw lodged on the table. Seriously, if the film's even half as good as this soundtrack then it's going to be worth watching whether you speak Swedish or not. Plus there's the chance that it'll be porn, you know what those guys are like... we could be in for a winner after all. Seriously though this is a killer album and totally unexpected, I'd never heard of Enocksson before this but if this soundtrack is indicative of the rest of his material I expect we'll be hearing a lot more from him in the next few months. Absolutely gorgeous, close the doors and lock yourself inside, this is personal... music to fall in and out of love to. Highly recommended.
Tracklisting:
1 The Joy Of D.H. Lawrence (4:22)
2 Dusk Settles In (2:05)
3 The Breaking Of Waves (4:35)
4 The Nylon Waltz (2:55)
5 What Drove Her Shivering Into The Cold, Cold Sea (4:27)
6 The State The Sea Left Me In (4:14)
7 Thru Thick Night (2:57)
8 With Its Dar Tail Curled 'round The Garage, Pt. 1 (2:09)
9 The Sea Waltz (4:36)
10 The Lingering Procession (4:00)

Alcest - souvenirs d'un autre monde

Sur L'autre Rive Je T'attendrai 06. Tir Nan Og Souvenirs d'un autre monde Beauty and the dreamlike haze of the mind come together - and create a paradoxical melancholic joy in which the memories of days past are brought to one's mind, here is the soft perfection of nature explored, the silent flow of the river, the calm blowing of the spring breeze, and the pale green of the leaves dancing from the tall trees. Ask yourself not what this sounds like - but instead allow the masterful hand of Neige to guide you through this journey. | |
